Default See now some one confused me on the balthazar factions thing...

Ok I have a post up on the Ranger forums for Builds, Some one said that I can unlock skills by using Balthazar faction, in PvP and then use them in PvE? Or how does that work. I read on the instruction manual for the game, That PvE skills unlock PvP skills. It did not say anything about PvP skills allowing me to buy PvE skills once I unlock them.

And if so then What in the world is the Skill pack for? I got the Factions one and It only lets me use it in PvP and with Hero Im a bit confused about how this works...If some one could explain it to me, here or in the Ranger forums that would be great. I asked my guild they said you can't get PvE skills from PvP.

You can unlock skills with balthazar faction. However to learn them in PvE you still need to train them. Whether you use a skill point to learn it or you use a skill tome.

The reason you might use Baltazar faction is to unlock an elite, then use an elite tome to train it other than capturing the skill yourself.

In short, you buy a skill from a skill dude = a pvp toon can use it. You unlock a skill using a cap sig = a pvp toon can use it. Them two were pve (obviously, lol) You unlock a skill using balth faction = any pvp toon you ever make will be able to use, and if you use a tome on a pve char he will be able to use it.

hope that helps im sleepy and cant be bothered typing much

also skill packs are useful if you never want to do any form of pve and just want to focus on the pvp side of things. Pretty much pointless if you already have all the packs but some pople still do.

and why the hell would you only need nightfall? to the dude below me

Yes, you have to use faction too unlock the skill, and for pve, you need a tome or elite tome to unlock normal or elite skills. To do this, you'll need Nightfall.

You don't need NF.

Anyway, all the answers above aren't correct/complete.
Here is what the guy on the ranger forum was trying to explain. Skill trainers in PvE don't always have all the skills available. However, if a skill is unlocked in any way (via PvE or PvP) then it becomes available from all PvE skill trainers.

Well, I hate to nitpick, but that's not totally true either. If it's core, it'll be unlocked at all trainers, but if its not, it'll only be unlocked on the trainers in the campaign that its from

OMFG THANK YOU THANK YOU! you have no idea how much my guild was trying to explain this and i just didnt get it! So i can go make a PvP ranger right now.(starts at lvl 20) Spend an entire WEEK pvp for like 6 hours a day. Unlock all the ranger skills in prophecies! then buy them from a prophecies skill trainer on my lvl 18 PvE ranger!

Or, er, get your level 18 Ranger to Perdition Rock, from where all Prophecies skills can be purchased. Except the elites, duh.

Yeah thats fine.(the elite skill thing) Now my last and final question about this is, What about the skill pack? Do I still have to "unlock" Those skills with Balthazar faction in PvP too? Because I can already use them in pvp, How would I go about doing this process with those?

It sounds to me like you are still confused, and I can't blame you because all the answers given were vague/wrong..

Unlocking skills in pvp has nothing to do with the skills the skill trainers have available. Every skill trainer in the game has a set list of skills that he sells, based on your profession. Skill trainers in prophecies will ONLY have prophecies or core skills (although not necessarily all skills), and each non-elite skill is sold by at least one skill trainer. Factions skill trainers have factions and core skills, etc. etc. They sell the same skills whether you have the skill unlocked in pvp or not.

Unlocking a skill does 3 useful things for you:
1.) Your heros can use it
2.) Your pvp characters can use it
3.) You can use skill tomes to "learn" it on pve characters

More about skill tomes. Typically, this will be cheaper than the 1 plat it will cost you to buy the skill from the trainer, and also it doesn't use a skill point. The only downside is that the skill must first be unlocked, either from pvp, hero skill trainers, or having learned it on another pve character previously.

If you want to know what skills you have unlocked, either look at what skills your heros can use, or visit a pvp rewards priest of balthazar, at a guild hall or the great temple of balthazar, for example.

What I recommend you do is buy a bunch of ranger skill tomes, and unlock all the skills you want on another character/from hero skill trainers/pvp, especially since you will definitely have limited skill points on a lvl 18 character :P

If you are still confused about anything, be sure to check out guildwiki, as it has all this information and much more.
